Semiotic System of Musical Texts

چکیده
In article authors put forward a hypothesis about existence special semiotics system in music, which is close on the structure and mechanisms to a natural language. To check the hypothesis we have selected the ancient Russian chants of XI-XVII centuries, written by Znamenny notation. Using "lingvomusical" analogies and allocation of the corresponding semiotics designs allowed applying linguistic methods to processing and analyzing chants, identification of their musical "lexicon", syntax and semantics.

Iconicity in Language and Music: Establishing Homologies Between Diverse Phenomena
This paper explores the extent to which the iconic principles are evidenced in literary texts. We will present case studies of how iconicity works and come to some conclusions about the efficacy of musical forms when they are tailored down to the needs of another semiotic system. Iconicity is regarded in the paper in a structural way as an isomorphic analogue to the referent. We try to treat mu...
متن کاملOn Semantic Spaces
This contribution gives an overview about different approaches to semantic spaces. It is not a exhaustive survey, but rather a personal view on different approaches which use metric spaces for the representation of meanings of linguistic units. The aim is to demonstrate the similarities of apparently different approaches and to inspire the generalisation of semantic spaces tailored to the repre...

متن کاملSelf-Organization and Semiosis in Jazz Improvisation
The complex systems principle of self-organization provides a new way of understanding the behavioral dynamics behind the emergent, spontaneous exchanges of musical performance. In biological self-organization, energy is expended in the form of work which operates to maintain order in a system, collectively constraining the possible behaviors the components of the system can exhibit. When two s...
